Since I only have my GED, I had to either:
Wait until a GED slot opened.
or
Get 15 college credit hours.
I'm assuming that either a GED slot opened, or my cousin pulled some strings to get me in.
I've been trying to join ever since I got my GED a little over a year ago.

Here in BR, you're forcible to join the army '-'
Like, if you have 2 arms and 2 legs, you MUST join for at least 2 years. ( in times of war, they take if you have 1 arm to hold the gun.)

You need to start speaking American cause I have no idea what the hell you're saying.
On the serious, for anyone curious I googled it. BR is Brazil, R$ is Brazilian Real (Brazil's currency), and R$ 45,000 is roughly $25,700.

in brazil the economy is mostly driven by pickpockets in Rio Grande, which is so unfortunate because that's one of the prettiest places - and thus a common tourist destination

Man, I lived for 6 years in Rio Grande. AHAHAHAH
And I still live in Rio Grande do Sul.
Believe, there's way more pickpockets in Rio de Janeiro.
Now wondering, why do we have so much cities with 'rio?'
Btw, Rio means river

believe it or not, a lot of spanish and portugese words are used here in America, and "rio" is one of them - in places with a lot of latin american immigrants, like Texas and California and Florida, most of the street and city names are in spanish.
a friend of mine spent three months somewhere in Brazil. he took capoeira classes while he was there. he said the best part about the trip was all the sightseeing; the worst part was either all the fire ants, or this one goddamn parrot. it kept attacking him and making loud noises during the day, it was so loud that he couldn't watch TV in peace. he got tired of the bird, so he caught it in a pillowcase, hung the pillowcase in a tree, and beat it with a stick.
fuck birds, man.
EDIT: yes mason i meant Janeiro. i knew it was one of the Rios.

Apr 29 2010, 04:06 PM
Oh, just as I thought.
Well, the problem with Brazil, is that we have two Brazils.
Some months ago, in a trip with my girl, we were in a highway, and looking left, you could see a rich very rich and noble condominium.
Looking right, though, you could see a shantytown.
And it is that way all over Brazil, every single city.
Btw, I didn't know you use so many spanish words ^^ I should have wondered that, based on the fact you are so close with Mexico.

As mentioned before, there was the option of waiting for a GED window to open, or to get 15 college credit hours. And since I work 40+ hours a week, school isn't really an option. Besides, after 3 years I can go to full active duty unless called to beforehand. It's not a bad gig. Get to keep my current job, too.

MEPS was easy. Got sworn in today. Say hello to the newest Sailor in the U.S. Navy. Active Duty, working in AECF (Advanced Electronics/Computer Field.)
Scored an 82 on my ASVAB. That was apparently enough for them to bypass the fact I had my GED and put me straight into Active Duty, rather than Reserves. Supposedly, I ship off for Boot Camp on the 10th of January, but my recruiter is calling in for roll-ups to see if we can get me gone as soon as this month.

The closer I get to graduation, the less sure I am of my major. I've been giving some thought to a gubmint job that just requires a degree, but they don't care what it's in. This would mean sweet benefits, but also selling out.

One can only "sell out" if he is already moderately successful on artistic merit alone. Otherwise, it's called cashing in, and it's incredibly underrated.
